DOMESTIC DREAM at Archauz – a bonus performance, courtesy of an EU grant!
In April 2009, Choreographic Centre Archauz was awarded a prestigious EU Départs grant. A Départs grants opens the door for a long series of international collaboration and gives young talented choreographers the opportunity to work as a professional in a professional environment. Archauz’ artistic director, Jens Bjerregaard, selected the choreographer, Louise Friis, as the first Départs artist-in-residence at Archauz. Concluding her residency, Friis will be presenting the yet-unseen duet Domestic Dream, November 19-21. Domestic Dream will performed by two professional dancers, Iván Martínez Moreno (ES) and Vittoria Lasorella (DK).
DOMESTIC DREAM will be shown in together with NOW at Archauz on November 19-21, 2009.
”This EU support has given me the means and room to work and develop my dance. It is such a gift to have support for a smaller project – it allows me time and space to develop a work with intention from the ground up. And because it is a smaller project, I have time to research and experiment – and I don’t have to focus on the final product ... yet”, explains Louise Friis about this unique opportunity she’s been given.
Inspiration from Personal Experience – a charming and inconvenient duetDomestic Dream explores the relationships between people. Louise Friis explains that her choreography is most often founded on her own experience or what others share with her about their experiences; otherwise, a dance on the subject would result in something self-absorbed, therapeutic, or mundane. For Louise Friis, it is important that her style is clean and recognised as Louise Friis’ choreography. Her intent is to create an expression that makes an impression.
”I believe that people will find the duet interesting and inviting because it is a sentiment people relate to. The work doesn’t have a dramatic line, but rather recognisable situations one can identify with,” explains Louise Friis about the presentation.
Domestic Dream and Its FutureOver the next few months, the version of Domestic Dream shown on November 19-21 will be transformed into a larger production that will tour Denmark during the 2010 season. But right now, it remains a work-in-progress, a part of an exciting and longer process.
Louis Friis’ earlier works were Cacao, from Spring 2008, and Klip, from Fall 2008. This will be the first time in more than a year that we’ll see Friis’ choreography at Archauz.
